100 years ago: “Several prominent mining men now in the city from the La Platas, look for a great revival in the industry during the coming season. Plans for the building of a custom mill, and of a cyanide mill, custom tram and other auxiliaries to the mining business, are said to be approaching culmination.”

75 years ago: “St. Columba’s annual school entertainment will be given. The entertainment will consist of two parts – the first a pageant by the first-, second-, third- and fourth-grade children, and the second a play by fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.”

50 years ago: “To make their mouths water a little, Gene Moeny showed films of the 1964 Rose Festival in Portland, Ore. to the members of Durango High School band this week. The band is raising money to go to Portland to participate in the festival in June.”

25 years ago: “An unnamed developer has offered to build La Plata County a new fairgrounds near Durango in exchange for the current fairgrounds property in town. The developer’s offer is more than $7.5 million for the 31 acres, exhibit hall and extension building at 25th Street and Main Avenue.”
