75 years ago: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nutt of Gallup, New Mexico, with their daughter Marcella, spent Thanksgiving in Durango and visited Mrs. John Nutt and other relatives and friends. Frank Nutt was formerly with Western Union of Durango, and worked as a stationary engineer at Santa Fe Power Plant.

50 years ago: Five people, all residents of Montezuma County, were rushed to Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez after their car collided with a semi-truck at the junction of U.S. Highway 160 and Highway 184.

25 years ago: The elk population between Hesperus and Wolf Creek was estimated at the time to be about 17,000. Their numbers grew from only 25 elk, which were brought from Jackson, Wyoming, to the Animas Valley in 1912.
