And the West is History

100 years ago: An announcement printed as “Many Complaints” said, “If we published every kick made on the way our city is being managed we’d need about a 10-page issue. It is hell and then some, many sections look as though a cyclone struck it.”

75 years ago: Mrs. Agnes Wride, an 87-year-old Durango woman, was reported to be recovering after she fell during the fall season in the yard of her south Durango home and broke her leg.

50 years ago: A clue, in the form of a whinny from a horse, led officials to believe they would find a missing packer in the rugged country above Granite Peaks Ranch, on the Pine River, near Bayfield. The name of the packer was being withheld, and it was not known if the man was alive.

25 years ago: Shirley Baty, Republican, and Frank Joswick, Democrat, were elected as the two newest members of the Board of La Plata County Commissioners.
