And the West is History

100 years ago: “Mrs. John W. Wagner, of Bayfield, who with Mr. Wagner will make their home in this city, came over from that town with Al Houser in the Durango-Bayfield-Ignacio Ford Stage Service.”

75 years ago: BAYFIELD – “The Bayfield students presented the play ‘Black Cats’ at the 100F Hall at Ignacio.”

50 years ago: “The official moisture so far in 1965 is approaching 10 times that of the same date in 1964, and is already ahead of the long-time average precipitation through the entire month of January. The tally for the first three weeks of 1965 was 1.62 inches.”

25 years ago: “Fourteen people were evacuated from their homes southwest of Durango when a poisonous gas started leaking from a pipeline. Road blocks were set up on County Road 100 and near Thompson Park. Six families were taken about two miles west of the leak to a high point where there was little hydrogen sulfide, a gas that smells like rotten eggs.”
