100 years ago: An announcement from the local exemption board said, “Every one drafted MUST APPEAR. Merely because a claim for exemption has been made does not entitle anyone not to show up for examination.”
75 years ago: The Durango News was in the process of making a display of fishing photos, snaps and enlargements and was taking submissions from the public.
50 years ago: Engineering plans for the proposed paper and pulp mill, which would be built near Durango, were discussed by company officials. The discussion included an appraisal of the land for the building site and a study of the power requirements for the mill.
25 years ago: A man who was already facing charges for “slitting a horse’s throat and then punching a cop in May” reported that his girlfriend assaulted him after he tried to give her a new horse. She denied the claim and said he actually assaulted her, despite the restraining order she placed on him after the original incident.
