75 years ago: U.S. collector of internal revenue, Ralph Nicholas, announced that, according to a survey conducted by his office, those who had not purchased their $5 automobile-use tax stamps by Aug. 1 would be subject to a penalty of $25 or “30 days in prison.”
50 years ago: A juvenile boy was being held by police after he was spotted behind the wheel of Mary Beth Barnett’s 1953 Chevrolet at 5 a.m., east of Cortez.
25 years ago: A garbage can, filled with garbage, was reported stolen from the 1300 block of County Road 220.
