And the West is History

100 years ago: “Wild auto drivers are a menace. It is believed and sincerely hoped that speeding will become a thing of the past once the novelty of the automobile passes away.”

75 years ago: “‘Billy The Kid,’ starring Robert Taylor, is playing in Technicolor at the Kiva theater Sunday through Tuesday.”

50 YEARS AGO: Senora San Juan says: “Boys will be boys, which sometimes means fighting. It is certainly hard to know what to teach children about hitting ... it is expecting a good deal of a child to understand the difference between starting a fight and defending himself.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Durango cyclist Brenda Nelson has won three medals at the International Special Olympics. Nelson won a gold medal in the 1K time trial, a bronze in the 10K road race, and a silver in the 10K time trial, despite losing her bike chain and being forced to replace it during the ride.”
