100 years ago: Plans were in the works to build a railroad from the San Juan Basin to “some point on the Santa Fe main line.” The question, “Will that point be in Albuquerque?” would be answered by the Chamber of Commerce and residents in Albuquerque during a meeting scheduled to be held the next day.
75 years ago: A traffic crash occurred on the highway about three miles west of Durango when Luther Wyly, on his way into town, swerved to avoid a horse in the road and turned his car over. The vehicle skidded about 63 feet, went off the road, then skidded another 84 feet before it finally came to a stop.
50 years ago: Smoke from a burned-out transformer in a light fixture ushered firefighters to offices at 3063 Main Ave.
25 years ago: A mobile home fire in the Perins Peak Trailer Park, 21137 U.S. Highway 160, drew more than 20 volunteer firefighters and took two hours to extinguish. Nobody was injured during the incident.
