100 years ago: Mrs. E. F. Ellis arrived in Durango from Marvel to shop on Main Avenue.

75 years ago: The names of three Colorado men, including one from Durango, were displayed in a list of 435 naval casualties that were reported from Aug. 13 to Aug. 30.

50 years ago: La Plata County Undersheriff Frank Adams and Deputy Jess Adams were up all night responding to a series of calls, including two teenage bow hunters who were lost, a search request for a tourist who was said to be in a trailer park, two people who never returned from an early-morning fishing trip and two intoxicated men who needed help changing a tire.

25 years ago: A 48-year-old Durango woman broke her ankle during a hike east of Perins Peak and was belayed on a rope down a 250-foot mountain face to safety.
