And the West is History

100 years ago: Felix Croke was in town and “dropped an egg in Graden’s.” The Durango Democrat added, “if Felix had dropped another egg it would have been too bad.”

75 years ago: Colorado draft boards had not yet been asked to call upon married men with a child or children for active military duty.

50 years ago: The La Plata County Fair came to a close with Jeanne Macdonald of Durango named as winner. She was presented with a silver belt buckle from the Colorado Hereford Association after judges chose her Hereford as grand champion of the 4-H fat steer class.

25 years ago: Leftover Salmon, the bluegrass-rock-Cajun jam band from Boulder, gave a performance at Trimble Hot Springs. General admission was $10 and proceeds went to Alternative Horizons to benefit victims of domestic violence. The band, at the time, had not yet “done anything professional” as a collective.
