100 years ago: Ross McGirr of the Otis-McGirr company returned by train “from somewhere in the United States where he had been visiting for some time.”

75 years ago: The John R. Nelson sawmill abandoned its location on the Florida River after 14 years of constant operation. A reason for the shutdown was not given.

50 years ago: John A. Drott, manager of the Federal Land Bank of Durango, died unexpectedly at age 68. He was well known in the community, actively involved in the Southwest Colorado farm and ranch industry for 21 years.

25 years ago: Nineteen married couples filed for divorced during the month of July.
