50 Years Ago: Purgatory reported its busiest day, at 1,008 skiers since opening the previous year, in 1965. There were several reports of stolen skis, jacket and other equipment, and a reward of $100 dollars was offered in exchange for information of the person or persons responsible.
25 Years Ago: Fort Lewis College President Joel Jones vetoed the controversial Ku Klux Klan speech due to a breach in community safety. After bouncing around from having the city pay for security, to the organization itself pay for security, the FLC president revoked the Political Science Club’s invitation to KKK leader Shawn Slater and called the whole thing off.
