And the West is History

100 years ago: “We demand that the modern principles of prison reform be applied in our federal penal system. We favor such work for prisoners as shall give them training in occupations, so that they may make an honest living when released from prison.”

75 YEARS AGO: “Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Trade in your old car for one of these cars: 1936 Dodge Sedan, 1935 Chevy Coupe with radio and heater, 1936 Nash sedan priced to sell, and 1934 Dodge Express. All at Channell Motor Co., Inc., next to the Strater Hotel. Just phone 18.”

50 YEARS AGO: “Frontier Airlines has reinstated its 3:33 p.m. flight to Denver. The flight was taken off the schedule during the recent nationwide airline machinists strike. The flight reaches Denver at 5 p.m. Other daily Frontier flights from Durango to Denver are at 10:08 a.m. and 10:13 p.m.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Crime Stoppers is looking for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the vandalism at Greenmount Cemetery during the nighttime hours of June 10-11.
