This picture appeared in the Dec. 10, 1963, The Durango Herald. The cutline read, “The heaviest snowstorm to date in this area dumped more than a foot of snow on many of the mountain passes. Snow is piled high on Main Avenue in Durango as city crews worked to clear roads around town.”

100 years ago: “Sunnyside bridge – Work is progressing rapidly. County Surveyor Goodman reported that the center pier is finished and work has been started on the west abutment, which it is expected will be completed Thursday night.”

75 years ago: “Vaudeville on the Screen is a new feature of Your Durango Theatre. Pop Gollogher will present a series of vaudeville acts on the screen consisting of some of the best vaudeville stars, acrobats, dancing teams and novelties to be secured.”

50 years ago: MARVEL – “An oil rig fire one and a half miles southwest of Marvel was quickly extinguished by the La Plata Fire Volunteers.”

25 years ago: PAGOSA SPRINGS – “A lost teenage skier from Washington State who skied out of bounds from the Wolf Creek Ski Area was found alive and suffering from frostbite after an all night, 17-hour search. He was found several miles east of the Wolf Creek Ski Area.”
