75 years ago: “Mrs. J.A. Clark was hostess at a neighborhood tea, one of those informal and unusually pleasant affairs that make the swiftly passing summer days so memorably enjoyable. Neighbors and friends dropped in for a bit of refreshment and to exchange views of the happenings of the day.”

50 years ago: “Steve Morris, David Zook and Steven Smith were on the old TV station road up Crestview, when they noticed that some children were teasing a snake. Sterling recognized it as a rattlesnake, and he and his friends killed it and chopped it up. It had seven rattles and measured about 26 inches.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 5th St., was showing “Parenthood” starring Steve Martin. The billing read: “It could happen to you.”
