100 years ago: An advertisement read: “La Plata Rooming House has changed hands, and under the management of Mrs. Levan the rooms are kept warm and clean. When in the city overnight try this place. Cor. 10th & Main.”
75 years ago: “Reports from the state highway office in Durango indicate that all highways are still open, despite the heavy snowfall of Saturday and today. Nine inches of snow was on the ground.”
50 years ago: This appeared in the section called Junior High Jottings: “Report cards came out once again. It was the end of the first semester, and although there were many unhappy faces around the two schools, everyone is happy that half of the school year is over!!!”
25 years ago: “For the fifth time in the last two months the Colorado State Patrol recovered narcotics after stopping a motorist for a traffic violation in La Plata County. An Arizona man was arrested when a patrolman discovered about 95 pounds of marijuana in the 1979 Ford Thunderbird he was driving. ... Patrolmen in Southwest Colorado have recovered narcotics in five traffic stops since Dec. 1, 1988.”
