100 years ago: “Conductor Grant Sanders is to be honored by name by Carter, Colorado parents, who became the parents of a lusty boy. The train from Telluride to Durango on which they were riding struck or met a rock slide, that delayed it nearly two hours. In the meantime the stork was announcing himself. Sanders connected his telegraphone, had Rico wire Dolores to send a physician, and he and the stork arrived almost at the same time.”

75 years ago: “March 17-23 is designated by the National Wild Life Federation as Wild Life week. During the week a sale of wild life stamps will be held in every county in the nation.”

50 years ago: “Frank Anesi, Durango attorney, was named public defender for the 6th Judicial District by La Plata County commissioners. Anesi will be paid $4,800 a year plus $100 a month for office expenses.”

25 years ago: “With a public meeting scheduled by the opposition, county officials still are mum on details of a proposed land deal that would relocate the fairgrounds. ... The county commissioners admitted they are considering an offer from a developer to build a new fairgrounds in the vicinity of Durango in exchange for the 31-acre fairgrounds propriety at 25th Street and Main Avenue.”
