100 years ago: “The city commissioners refused to permit the barber under the Burns National Bank to erect his pole on the corner of Main and Ninth Street, holding that it was against public policy.”

75 years ago: “April 18 was something of an event for the Western Colorado Light & Power Company and for the residents of Redmesa, for on April 18 the first electric range, refrigerator and heater was installed and connected on the mesa.”

50 years ago: “Pushing rakes and brooms and shovels, 111 students between the ages of 16 and 21 in School District 9-R are working in the Neighborhood Youth Corps program for $1.25 an hour. About 11 of these are school dropouts who have returned to complete their high school educations.”

25 years ago: “April showers are easing some of the immediate concerns of drought in Southwest Colorado. But while the rain, sleet and snow are welcome, officials warn that a few days of wet skies haven’t done enough to make up for months of dry weather.”
