100 years ago: “About 100 pupils of the St. Columba’s school spent much of their time last week in beautifying the church and school grounds preparatory to Colorado-New Mexico Fair week, and the effect is very gratifying to all concerned.”
75 years ago: “For three days of the coming weekend the Ute Indian Fair will be held at Ignacio. During those three days the Southern Utes will exhibit their best agricultural and livestock products. Sports, too, have a big place on the program.”
50 years ago: “There’ll be no skiing today. It was only a skiff of snow which fell on Red Mountain and on the La Platas. Durango recorded .36 inch of rain and an added .05 of an inch Saturday.”
25 years ago: “Residents called on the Durango City Council for stiffer fines – and maybe even jail sentences – to quell loud parties in their neighborhood. After 15 residents of the Sixth and Seventh avenues area, where many of the homes are rented to college students, showed up at the council’s meeting to complain about parties.”
