100 years ago: Forty acres of land on Fort Lewis Mesa went on sale last spring, and hadn’t been purchased. The lack of interest forced the owner to rent the place, and “the renter planted wheat.” The wheat “harvested off that forty” and was worth more than the owner asked for in the spring. It was added that they had “the papers for this tale.”
75 years ago: Rodney Carmean ventured the opinion, “backed by painful knowledge,” that there was nothing “little” about the kick of a Shetland pony.
50 years ago: The Durango Hotel was burglarized of “an undetermined but small amount of money,” according to a call to Durango Police Department.
25 years ago: Suspected to be part of a string of vehicle break-ins during the month, someone reported that a boy was tampering with cars in the parking lot of Durango Sports Club, 1600 Florida Road.
