And the West is History

100 years ago: IGNACIO – “Yes, Ignacio is going to have a jail, and some who have waited long for it will surely get their desire appeased. Looks like some street work was coming up for the city.”

75 years ago: “It is rumored that ‘Two-Ton’ Tony Galento will hit Durango on a barnstorming prizefighting tour, but considering the capacity of a narrow-gauge boxcar we doubt if that is true.”

50 years ago: “Second Avenue is becoming a through street. The city manager’s office has issued a work order for the installation of stop signs on the west side of Second Avenue from Seventh Street to 12th Street.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 Fifth St., was showing “K-9” starring James Belushi. The billing read, “Meet the two toughest cops in town. One’s just a little smarter than the other.”
