100 years ago: “From Ignacio there came a copy of the ‘Declaration of Principles’ of ‘The Law & Order League of Ignacio,’ recently organized as a result of the saloon and anti-saloon agitation in that place. The league was formed with the intention of destroying the business of the notorious Fabian and any other bootlegger that may have the nerve to illegally sell booze in our town.”
75 years ago: “There’s no doubt about it – Durango’s big Christmas lighting party was one big success from more than one angle. All the lights – Christmas decorations and store displays – were set ablaze, and the spectacle was the best ever seen in Durango.”
50 years ago: “A heater being used to dry concrete on the Main Avenue bridge widening project ignited a canvas covering the new cement, causing about $100 damage and tying up traffic briefly. The fire department was called and was out only 14 minutes. During the time the fire truck was at the scene, traffic was rerouted through West Side.”
25 years ago: “Preemptive Technologies Inc., a California company that deals with computer software, has announced its intentions to relocate its research and development division to the Durango area. ... The firm, which is based in Hercules, a small community north of San Francisco, specializes in ‘intellectual property rights.’ Durango was selected over a half dozen other sites, including three foreign countries. About six to 10 people would be employed at the Durango plant at the outset.”
