100 years ago: SUNNYSIDE – “A big dance is being planned for Oct. 6 at the schoolhouse. A hearty welcome is extended to all, but those who come must please remember that ragging will not be allowed. The ladies are kindly requested to bring sandwiches.”

75 years ago: “Jack Walls of Durango, who has been employed at the Graden mills, re-enlisted in the Navy today, and will leave for Denver to be sent to his station.”

50 years ago: PAGOSA SPRINGS – “A possible site for a Job Corps camp is located on the San Juan National Forest about four miles north of U.S. 160 on the Piedra Road in the Piedra range district. The prime goal of the camps is to build character and to improve job qualifications of the youths enrolled.”

25 years ago: “The Mercy Health Foundation launched the area’s third major fund-raising campaign by announcing a nine-month drive to buy a new ambulance to serve La Plata County. The goal of $74,000 will replace the oldest of Mercy’s three ambulances, the Mercy Two, 1977 Ford that has logged 122,370 miles.”
