50 Years AGO: Robert L. Bennett, commissioner of Indian Affairs, said this morning that the bureau is studying the problem of providing greater services to the Mountain Utes at Towaoc, south of Cortez. However, he said the bureau has no plans at this time for moving the agency from Ignacio. He said that occasionally the question of moving the agency to a more central location for both tribes does come up for discussion.

25 years ago: Suppose Durango School District 9-R, the city and county work together to build schools outfitted with the latest computer technology, an indoor recreation complex, playing fields galore and a brand new fairgrounds. The cost to taxpayers could be as high as $41 million, school officials said.
