And the West is History

75 Years Ago: “A 65 year-old Silverton man, working with his son at Little Dora Mill, died Monday after falling 25 feet and suffering a broken back and crushed ribs. His son, 15, survived with a broken elbow and possible internal injuries.”

50 YEARS AGO: “The Red Barn: 2 miles north of Durango. Buffet featuring BBQ spare ribs, ham, beef, and chicken. Adults $1.75, children $1.00”

25 YEARS AGO: “Mercy rates jump nearly 14 percent: Mercy Medical Center announced that this is the third rate increase of 10 percent or more in the past three years. Mercy stated their medical suppliers are increasing prices ‘in the double digits’ and that less federal funding programs mean declining reimbursements.”
