And the West is History

100 years ago: “Frank Lechner, of Rockwood, cashed in on three coyote covers at the county treasurer’s office, and Willis F. Taylor of Redmesa took down a couple of iron men for one skin. Coyotes seem to be handy things to have around the ranch at Christmas time.”

75 years ago: “It is no longer rumor but actually a true fact that Farmers Supply Company, Minneapolis-Moline dealer, is showing ‘The Headliners’ – the most sensational farm movie production of the decade. Yes, they say it’s a humdinger, and it shows Dec. 29 at the Durango theater.”

50 years ago: “Downtown Durango was filled with last-minute shoppers on Christmas Eve as the great majority of stores reported excellent Christmas business, in some cases setting all-time records.”

25 years ago: “A Durango woman has been named the top saleswoman and recruiter in 1989 for Princess House Inc. out of 20,000 representatives nationwide. Cindy Winn was awarded two $200 savings bonds for her efforts plus many Heirloom Gifts of Tomorrow. Princess House Inc. sells small gift items, primarily American handblown crystal.”
