And the West is History

100 years ago: “Frank Trumble’s new Ford car was shipped to him at Ames by the local Ford card agency. Norton says he doesn’t expect to see Mr. Trumble’s happy face here again soon – that he will be busy running the car over the mountain peaks up there knocking over eagles.”

75 years ago: “Several specialists will be paying a visit to La Plata County for the purpose of helping with farm problems.”

50 years ago: “The Herald received a check from the North State Bank of Amarillo, Texas; that has an overprint of Eskimos, igloos and husky dog teams. How far north is this bank?”

25 years ago: “Residential property values in Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio fell an average of 5 percent in the last two years, according to a revaluation by the La Plata County assessor. Commercial property values dropped by as much as 12 percent in Durango, 10 percent in Bodo Industrial Park and 4 to 6 percent in Bayfield and Ignacio.”
