And the West is History

100 years ago: It was rumored that fishing laws were to be revised for 2018 “at a special session of the legislature” to meet changed conditions, such as “dumping contraband liquors into the waters of our rivers.” The trout had become “chronic alcoholics” and it would be made unlawful to “dip the bait in one’s bottle” because it was “too much like shooting a rabbit sitting.”

75 years ago: It was announced that anyone who rode their horse into town for the location premiere of “The Naked Spur” would receive a free ticket to the movie.

25 years ago: A 45-year-old man arrested Aug. 19 near La Posta Canyon after “a commando-style raid by 10 camouflage-clad La Plata County Sheriff’s deputies on his marijuana patch” pleaded guilty.
