50 years ago: The Mills Construction Company submitted the low bid for construction of an earth-filled, floodwater retarding dam in the Pine River Watershed project near Ignacio, F.A. Mark, state conservationist, has announced. The bid was for $116,752. Construction of the dam will be federally financed as it is a flood-prevention structure.
25 years ago: Teen mothers at Durango High School could soon have the break they need to stay in school, say sponsors of a new child care program. The Training Advantage will open its Teen Parent Day-Care Center Dec. 2 in a few rooms of the Brookside Motel, across from the high school. About six teen mothers and their babies are signed up.
