75 years ago: “Dr. and Mrs. BJ Ochsner were hosts at a delightful party when they entertained at one of the most original and enjoyable of recent affairs. Guests were bidden for 6:30 buffet-supper and arrived to find themselves in the midst of a miniature World’s Fair, marked by delectable and temptingly displayed foreign dishes, epicurean delights to suit the taste of the most exacting connoisseur.”
50 years ago: “Strep sore throat is to be surveyed this week in schoolchildren. All schoolchildren will be offered the simple test during school time. The laboratories at Colorado Sate Department of Health will then determine the risk of a strep epidemic this winter. ... There has not been a lot of scarlet fever or strep illness in doctors offices yet, and a larger survey was advised.”
25 years ago: “Durango has renewed interest in opening its own landfill through negotiations with La Plata County for 88 acres adjacent to the former Van-Dal site. If county commissioners and council members approve the deal, the city hopes to have a landfill in operation in about 18 months.”
