100 years ago: It was predicted that “an awful gang of Durangoites” planned to join the Fourth of July festivities at Mancos.

75 years ago: Durango News city editor C.R. “Frizz” Gordon resigned from his position and departed for Fort Logan to begin service in the U.S. Army.

50 years ago: The U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare approved a $14,220 grant for “Robin Rogers school for retarded children” to construct a new facility.

25 years ago: Two horses, an appaloosa and a bay, were shot in the 1500 block of County Road 135. The appaloosa sustained a gunshot to its hind quarters and the bay was shot in the throat and killed.
