100 years ago: “Today is Good Roads Day in the state of Colorado. Also in La Plata County. A big bunch of citizens have volunteered to put in a day working the county and city roads. But they will not walk. Oh no, no walking. They want to conserve their muscle for real labor. And so – it’s up to owners of automobiles to help get these willing road workers to the scene of battle.”
75 years ago: “Miss Frances Williams, itinerant nurse for the state division of crippled children, is conducting an institute on orthopedic nursing in Durango. Discussions are held on the part the nurse plays in the home care of the crippled child.”
50 years ago: “Moisture in the snow pack is 100 percent of the average.”
25 years ago: “A Bayfield woman who has a history of mental health problems held the Bayfield marshal and two of her relatives at gunpoint over an apparent electric bill dispute. The woman was arrested for felony menacing and resisting arrest and placed on a 72-hour mental-illness hold following the incident.”
