And the West is History

100 years ago: “Mrs. G. P. Lowell was buying Christmas candies and presents for the Pine River Sunday School here.”

75 years ago: “Everyone you talk to these days has a cold, or will have after the conversation.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Junior High Jottings: “This morning both junior highs said farewell for Christmas vacation with assemblies full of jolly singing, parties full of fun and plays. Smiley drama class presented ‘Geraldine and the White Robe,’ a Christmas play.”

25 years ago: “Though financial losses totaled more than $55,000 for November and patient revenues were at the lowest level all year, board members of La Plata Community Hospital were told that the situation could be worse. According to research conducted by hospital Administrator Tom Mitchell and his staff, the hospital would have suffered additional losses of more than $250,000 if the facility had dropped its medical/surgical services.”
