And the West is History

100 years ago: “Turkeys – The Graden Company stocked up on 12 from Ogle Monteith of the Florida, 20 from Hans Aspaas of Ignacio and 15 from Jim Asher of Bayfield.”

75 years ago: “Attendance at the Peace Officers training school in Durango is expected to be 100 percent from the five counties in the district. Courses will be given in scientific crime detection and investigation, police tactics and crimes scenes.”

50 years ago: “Winter months mean water problems for many people living in the country. Water levels fall, and stream flow decreases. Many basin residents from out of town still take the chance of serious illness by drinking unsafe water. ... Often ditch and stream water is polluted by flowing through barnyards, over dead carcasses or game or receiving raw sewage from homes upstream. Proper water treatment is the only safe protection.”

25 years ago: “The Durango City Council agreed to annex the proposed ‘semi-rural’ 180-acre Rockridge subdivision and its private road system.”
