75 years ago: “Three men were terribly injured in an explosion in a mine near Telluride when they drilled into an un-fired ‘shot’ of dynamite. The men were rushed to a hospital in Telluride where examination revealed that flying dirt and splinters of rock had injured the eyes of the victims so that they probably will be blinded.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled: Dryside News. “A group of young people met and went caroling in the Marvel vicinity. After they had made the rounds they moved on to the Charles Payne home where they and their chaperones enjoyed games and refreshments.”
25 years ago: “Red Mountain Pass reopened after being closed since Christmas Day because of snowslides. At least 60 snowslides blocking U.S. Highway 550 over the pass were cleared by highway crews. ... Recent snows of up to 2 feet and high winds created the worst avalanche danger in the San Juan Mountains in the last 15 years.”
