75 years ago: Mr. and Mrs. C.W. (Chuck) Kiel arrived in Durango from Oakland for a short visit with his mother, Edith C. Kiel, La Plata County clerk. Chuck expected to be called for Army service after he was engaged in the Navy yards at Oakland.

50 years ago: Oct. 19 was announced as the deadline for filing letters of protest against the threatened abandonment of the Denver & Rio Grande Western rail line between Durango and Alamosa.

25 YEARS AGO: Big-game hunters in the area were advised to protect meat from spoiling in the heat after a successful kill.
