75 years ago: Philip Voight, retired Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad man and Durango resident, died of an unspecified illness. His remains were accompanied back to Concordia, Missouri, where he was born.

50 years ago: Virgil R. Holgate was elected to succeed Emil Arndt as the president of La Plata Motors Inc.

25 years ago: After a Bureau of Land Management review of a proposal to double the number of coal-bed wells that occupied a four-square-mile section of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, the state commission voted not to approve the gas production company’s plan.
