100 years ago: “The Rev. Father John White, who succeeds Father Callanan at St. Columba’s Church, will arrive in Durango. Father White is a Pennsylvanian by birth and an active young man.”
75 years ago: “The lack of the new current orange-colored inspection certificates on their cars was the sticker which ‘stuck’ three motorists. Drivers whose cars lack the new orange certificates are subject to arrest.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled: Girl About Town, “Bob Beers may not be the best skier in town, but to listen to his pupils talk, you know he’s one of the best instructors. Jerry Johnson, who had the benefit of a session with Beers early in January, is sensational as he dashes up and down the mountains – all accomplished in four short weeks. ‘I can get down most hills now,’ he says enthusiastically.”
25 years ago: “No one was injured in a fire at 1045 East Second Avenue that took 14 Durango firefighters almost three hours to extinguish. ... The cause of the fire is unknown.”
