75 years ago: “We feel short of meeting our quota of $45,050.00 in October by $4,013.25. Our quota for November has been raised to $55,800.00,” John Fankhauser, La Plata County War Savings Staff chairman, said in a report of October, 1942 war bond sales.
50 years ago: The U.S. Forest Service agreed to a wood-treating process that permitted construction of a new ski jump at Purgatory Resort. The wood was ordered from Denver and delivered to Durango for “cipping” in a preservative.
25 years ago: The “Durango gay community and supporters” planned a flashlight vigil and march to protest an anti-gay-rights amendment that was passed by voters.
