100 years ago: “After a part of the night spent in the city jail, following their arrest in a rooming house, a young girl and a resort piano player were taken from a rooming house after repeated hints that her conduct was not approved of by the police were not heeded by the girl. In police court a fine of $15 was assessed against the girl, and double that amount against the man. On their agreeing to a marriage, the fines were remitted and the ceremony was performed.”
75 years ago: “No candidates for city councilmen received a majority of the 1,319 votes cast, as required by the city charter. Another election will have to be held in two weeks.”
50 years ago: “In the first operation of its kind, the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad will make a special run of its narrow gauge steam train, The Silverton, for the exclusive benefit of professional photographers.”
25 years ago: “The mystery didn’t linger long on election night, as Leonel Silva, Harrold Shipps and Bob Dolphin were voted onto the Durango City Council by wide margins over three competitors.”
