50 years ago: The sale of water was the main issue raised in the hearing of the South Durango Water District on Friday with Judge George Kempf presiding. Attorney Fred Emigh, representing the Durango City Council, states that nowhere in the contract was the sale of any water mentioned, only the processing of water in that area. The city voted in April to provide city water for the South Durango Water District but placed restrictions on how much and when the water was to be delivered for the first 18 months.
25 years ago: La Plata County officials are moving along quickly with the development of a master plan for a new fairgrounds and will begin advertising Sunday as far away as New York and Los Angeles for bids to sell the existing fairgrounds. Representatives from Bullock, Smith and Partners of Tennessee will meet today and Thursday with county officials and representatives from the various groups expected to use the facilities on Ewing Mesa.
