100 years ago: “Attorney Frank A. Hutto, government farmer on the Ute reservation at Ignacio, was in the city on legal business connected with the anti-saloon fight in the Gateway to Cave Basin.”

75 years ago: “Five arrests – made quietly during the past week – have smashed a ring of fur bootleggers in La Plata and Archuleta counties. Included in the five, who were the ‘ringleaders’ was a man who had been – until his arrest – in the employ of the state game department.”

50 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jones Jan. 1 bought the Royal Motel, 2068 Main Ave., from Irvin Mergelman and Arthur and Gale Holt. The Joneses are living at the Royal and will manage the motel.”

25 years ago: “The Region 9 Hazardous Substance Board is looking for funding and volunteers to form a hazardous materials response team that would serve 10 surrounding towns and five counties. Board members have been working for three years to put together a response team in accordance with a hazardous materials law passed in 1983.”
