100 years ago: “A canning demonstration will be held at the home of Mr. Miller on Wednesday. W.E. Valpon of the Boys and Girls Clubs will conduct a demonstration.”
50 YEARS AGO: “The poolside party at the Durango Club Friday night was a splash. The bathing beauty contest was won by Bob Beers in a bikini, with Joe Shober coming in second. John Morrissey won a prize for skin diving as the only contestant, and Frank Piccoli came in first in a race where the entrants had to swim across the pool with a spoon in their mouth carrying a hard boiled egg.”
25 YEARS AGO: “No milk, no glory in fair contest: At 6 p.m. today in the pavilion, a number of local ‘celebrities’ will use a variety of techniques in attempts to coax milk from a goat in the Celebrity Goat Milking Contest. Those who are not successful may employ a trick, such as the year J. Paul Brown stole milk from a nearby goat when his own goat would not produce.”
