50 years ago: Employment in La Plata county rose four per cent between March 1964 and March 1965 according to one of the nation’s economic indicators, “County Business Patterns,” issued recently by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of the Census. Number of employees in the county, in businesses covered by the report, for March 1965 totaling 2,827 against 2,725 for the same month a year earlier.

25 years ago: Holiday bargain hunters filled their carts this morning at K mart in the Durango Mall. The store opened at 7 a.m. to attract shoppers on what is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year.
