75 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Corle, after spending a couple of days in Durango left by auto for New York, where they will embark for a trip of several months duration in Europe. Mrs. Corle will be remembered by Durangoites as Helen daughter of the late B. N. Freeman, one time prominent Durango banker. Helen has been a cinema star for a number of years, and has just finished a picture soon to be released ‘Safety in Numbers.’”

50 years ago: “The Huck Finn fishing pond for kids 14 and under now is open. The limit is five fish per day.”

25 years ago: “A Durango man was injured by lightning during a brief storm that sparked a rash of small fires around La Plata County. The 27 year old man was shocked but apparently wasn’t seriously injured when lightning struck near him.”
