50 years ago: Fort Lewis College is asking for $1,949,828 1967-1968 operating budget, an increase of $537,059 over this year’s budget, in anticipation of a 1,600 student body next year. The fatter budget is planned for such things as faculty salary increases, salaries for 10 new faculty and three new administrative staff members, an assistant to the dean of faculty, clerical help, instructional supplies and materials, three professional librarians, increase in library acquisitions to implement and gain the fullest use of the new college library.
25 years ago: The Motor Voter program reported in jeopardy last week will continue at Colorado motor vehicle offices at least through the end of the fiscal year. Gov. Roy Romer has proposed cutting the funding for the program beginning July 1, 1992, but even if he does, it will have little effect on voter registration in La Plata County, according to Clerk and Recorder Lind Daly. She said her office only receives two or three registrations per month from the driver’s license office at 1474 Main.
