25 years ago: The Herald ran an ad announcing that singer Johnny Cash was to perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at McGee Park. The show also featured June Carter and The Carter Family. Tickets were $13.50 for advance and $15 at the gate.

50 years ago: The Fort Lewis College women met on campus with its newest members.

25 years ago: Durangoan Floyd Wine outgunned 88 opponents and finished second in the third annual Durango Junction High Country Shootout. Competitors had registered nicknames: Wine’s was Al Packer.
