100 years ago: “Alva Heath, the Bayfield banker, and L.E. Jenkins, the druggist of that town, motored into town in the latter’s Ford car, transacted business briefly and started for home.”
75 years ago: “Roger Harry Norris of the local Forest Service has just returned from a 10-day trip into the Hermosa country where he has deposited three caches of supplies in preparation for a game count to be held in that area this winter. He reports the high country dry, but abundant signs of wildlife.”
50 years ago: “Postmaster Schuyler C. Parker announced that the post office windows will be open for parcel post and general delivery the two Saturdays prior to Christmas. The registry and money order windows will remain open as well. As an added convenience and to cut down on the long lines stamps will be on sale at all windows.”
25 years ago: “Local physician Donald Rappe will take his fight against leasing of Community Hospital outside of court now that a district court judge dismissed his case. Filing suit on behalf of the La Plata Medical Society, Rappe was seeking a ruling on the legality of the proposed lease between La Plata Community Hospital and Brim & Associates Inc. Judge All Haas ruled, however, that Rappe’s motion was premature because the lease has been proposed only. The judge said that the Community board could choose one of several actions: not act on the proposal, agree to a valid lease or choose not to lease its facilities to Brim.”
