100 years ago: “A new angle was given the proposed milk ordinance for the city of Durango when Commissioner Wilson advised the city council at its regular meeting that the Civic Club Committee had suggested the addition of a provision requiring all employees in and about the city dairy to be provided with a health certificate showing that they were free from communicable or contagious diseases.”
75 years ago: The Kiva was showing Victor Herbert’s “Sweethearts” starring Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy. The billing read, “Exquisite music, sparkling romance for the king and queen of song!”
50 years ago: “District Attorney Al Haas has filed a motion in district court on behalf of the State Game and Fish commission asking for a temporary injunction against Standard Metal Corps. of Silverton to halt alleged pollution of the Animas River.”
25 years ago: “The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad mechanics are working hard to put the six D&SNG engines back on track. And they promise to succeed. Meanwhile, engines sit idle over work pits where the roundhouse stood. Falling snow halted work in the open-air shop.”
