100 years ago: John Evans of Durango “had the misfortune to lose two cows on the alfalfa.”

75 years ago: A scrap-rubber collection campaign was underway in the area and would determine whether Durango would be forced to ration gasoline. The region collected several tons “of the vital war material” in the first week of the drive.

50 years ago: Richard Arnold Nowlin of Booker, Texas, was driving south on the west side of Vallecito Reservoir and pulling his boat, which caught fire without warning. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

25 years ago: Someone stole a goat from 46917 U.S. Highway 550.
